| Paradise Farm Alpacas LUNA |
| Welcome to the world, Luna Blue! This is a girl who had a bit of a rough first day on planet Paradise. Luna got off to what the vet calls "a slow start." Juno, her dam, was uncomfortable most of the day, and I wasn't sure of leaving her even for a minute. Late in the afternoon, appropriate to her name, Luna was born with no complications. The problems started when Luna made an attempt to stand and nurse. Juno had been late with the milk truck, and so Luna was feeling a little peaked. We spent a long evening and over-night in the barn*, and the vet came on day two. He declared her healthy, just slow to start. We wanted very much for her to nurse on her own (without our having to shove her under there) and were very worried about her not having absorbed her mother's colostrum. All was resolved with some supplemental good stuff, and pretty soon, Luna sidled up to the Milk Bar, found an open tap, and is currently pounding shots of Grade-A Mudder's milk every half hour or so. Anxious to meet the rest of the herd, she spends her time hopping and running around the nursery pen. She is really a beautiful girl. Darker than her mother (who is a true maroon) we expect she will be somewhere around a medium brown. And the curly locks can only have come from her handsome Pa. Keep checking back for more shots of this beautiful little girl. | Rocky's horoscope (emphasis ours): Friday, July 21st, 2006 Busy day for travel as the Gemini moon favors movement; however as long as Mercury, ruler of the Twins, is retrograde (one more week) anticipate running into hassles and delays. Luna is void for only 10 minutes Saturday morning, before it delves into nurturing Cancer, ruler of stomachs and breasts. What might also affect your digestion around lunch time is infectious Mars’ entrance into health-centric Virgo, ruler of the intestines. A few hours later, the sun enters Leo, the dramatic fire sign that governs the heart and spine. Take it easy this weekend; watch what you eat and how you devour it. Sunday is fairly tame; it’s smack in the middle of the dark of the moon period, so don’ t take on anything new. Wait until you get through the long Cancer moon- void on Monday (2 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. PST/5 a.m. to 8:30ish p.m. EST). After the Leo new moon kicks in one hour later, you’re good to go. |
